The Passaic County Office of Solid Waste and Recycling Programs continues to offer residents the opportunity to recycle their unwanted tires safely and easily.
This free program now enables residents to bring up to eight tires per event (double the amount accepted previously), with or without rims, for recycling. The next collection event will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19 rain or shine at the Passaic County Para-transit Facility Parking Lot, located at 1310 Route 23 North in Wayne.
“It is important to recycle tires for a variety of reasons, including their becoming breeding grounds for dangerous, diseased mosquitoes, as well as the potential for fire hazards if stored improperly,” said Nina Seiden, Passaic County’s Solid Waste and Recycling Programs manager.
All tires will be recycled into other useful products, such as playground mulch and facility surfacing. Residents will have assistance unloading their tires at the event site. Proof of residency will be required, and only residents may participate. Tires from commercial generators will not be accepted.
