Mars Mineral Adds Pelletizing System for Scrap Tires

MARS, Pa.—Mars Mineral Corp. said it now offers customers the equipment to transform scrap tires into carbon black feedstock powder through pyrolysis.

The company said recovered carbon black is useful as a tinting agent, strength additive, or UV protectant, and it can be used an economical pigment for aerospace, appliance, automotive, electronics, furniture, industrial, marine, packaging film and pipe coating applications.

Products that incorporate recovered carbon black include asphalt additives; automotive hoses, belts, dashboards, rocker panels, door panels, spoilers, hoods and trunks; computer and mobile phone casings; green tires; paints; and printing inks and toners.

“As thermal depolymerization technology continues to advance, demand for products containing recycled carbon black powder should increase,” Mars Mineral President Clayton Woodward said in a statement. “Our pelletizing systems are an enabling technology that can be useful in preparing a carbon black feedstock for manufacturing products that require a moderate or low degree of structural integrity.”

Mars Mineral’s pelletizing systems include a powder feeder, pin mixer, binder feed system, dryer, screener and bagger.

Mars Mineral, a division of Woodward Inc., manufactures agitation pelletizing equipment and systems at its 45,000 sq.-ft. facility near Pittsburgh. Woodward specializes in the design, fabrication and assembly of ferrous and non-ferrous metal products used in bulk materials processing and storage applications, including metals, cement and construction equipment manufacturing; mining and aggregates; food processing; and power generation.
